Lugano Cannabis Laws

Growing it and possessing it is legal (within limited quantity). However, smoking remains illegal in Lugano. That being said, the police and locals are quite relaxed about cannabis, so you don’t need to worry too much.

You’ll find quite a few cannabis shops around the city. However, they mostly sell light cannabis, which won’t get you high, but it’s worth a shot!

Law Enforcement

In general, you’ll find the cops pretty relaxed when it comes to cannabis. Since possession has been decriminalized, you can have up to 10 grams of weed on you. The maximum that the cops will do, if they catch you, confiscates your weed and fine you 100 CHF.

Only if you have a larger quantity, or are caught smoking or distributing it, that the fine increases substantially, and you might even be sent to prison.

Cannabis Prices and Quality

A gram of weed in Lugano should cost you 15 CHF. In reality, though, the price can vary from dealer to dealer. You might have to spend even 50 CHF on just 2.5 to 5 grams of weed, depending upon your dealer.

As for the quality- it is average. It is neither too good nor too bad. The good news is that it will get you high, so that’s what you’re looking for, then buying from the street dealers is not a wrong choice.

You will also find ‘legal cannabis’ being sold in shops, but keep in mind this weed won’t get you high.
